The Caribbean’s business and finance sector is evolving rapidly and it is imperative that our people are equipped to deal with the changes and their impacts. The development and encouragement of new approaches to business is an exciting endeavour that can ensure the longevity and sustainability of the Caribbean’s services sectors. New areas of interest such as personal finance, risk management, anti-money laundering and consumer protection will have a lasting impact on the Caribbean economy.
Internships
An Odd Cents internship will give you the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, foster greater insight into your current or desired area of study, and help you to establish a foothold in building your career. You will develop your knowledge of business and finance theory and demonstrate your ability to apply them to practical scenarios in the Caribbean.
Successful interns, especially those with journalism and/or mass communications backgrounds, should see the internship as an opportunity to practice what they have learnt in school. The internship primarily consists of the creation of informative articles which provide linkages between business and finance and the critical functions of governments, organisations, small business owners, entrepreneurs and individuals.
To write for Odd Cents, you will have to employ investigative research techniques in an effort to create thought provoking and interesting articles. Articles must be written in accordance with a style guide and should be well structured and formatted using basic search engine optimisation techniques. Interns must be capable of writing articles that are at least 650 words in length within a one week period. Articles should be accompanied by at least one image, three headlines and suggestions for social media promotion.
