How To Survive on a Small Pay Cheque

Creating a budget can help you to survive on a small pay cheque. The majority of people would tell you that their pay cheque is too small. Try it – ask someone that you know if they think their pay cheque is big enough. I would be very surprised to hear someone say that it’s too big. You will even find some people who will say that they have learnt how to survive on a small pay cheque.

Exactly how do they do it? How can you do it? The easiest and most obvious thing that someone would say is to get another job. But you know and I know that finding a new job is like pulling teeth – very, very hard to do. Whilst that is an option, it’s not the easiest and most immediate solution. I would suggest taking an all around approach to living and tackle those things which essentially make up your life.

  1. Live below your means – This is self-explanatory and it makes sense!
  2. Create a budget – Know and plan where you money is going.
  3. Look for deals – Garage sales are notorious for good deals on second hand stuff.
  4. Shop when there are sales – Sales are a great way to save money and stretch your dollars a bit further.
  5. Look for free stuff – Buy one get one free campaigns are ideal, especially when it comes to food items
  6. Look for additional income generators – Side hustles, side jobs, part time jobs, work-at-home jobs, freelance jobs, etc. All of these can
  7. Housing – If you are renting a huge house, getting a room mate is a suggestion. Please be careful who you room with and make sure that you trust the person.
  8. Save some of your money – You should have an emergency fund, and if you don’t you should start one. There should always be a Plan B…
  9. Cut back on the little things – I should not even use that term “little things” because although they are small they can create a huge impact. A practical example is to take your lunch to work.

I’m not going to lie and say that this will be easy. Because it can be extremely hard to do, if you have to change how you live currently. Think of it as a way to reach your goals. Just because your pay cheque is small, it does not mean that you should not keep your goals in mind, and try with all your might to reach them.
