Why You Should Pay Your Bills On Time

Make a note of your bills and when they are due, so that they can get paid on time.

I know a couple people who like to pay their bills on the day before or the same day they are due. I’ve done this before, but it was because I forgot about the bill. One time, I had to pay my credit bill which was due on the 28th of the month. I received the bill maybe around the 18th, and I forgot about it. I had it lumped together with some other papers and those papers got pushed out of sight.

By chance I was doing something and I remembered that I did not pay my credit card bill and it was due the same day. I was so thankful for internet banking. I hopped straight on the computer and paid that bill. That was the last time that ever happened and I’m making sure that it will not happen again.

There are lots of reasons why you should pay your bills on time. You can avoid:

  1. Getting disconnected – It’s pretty upsetting to know that you’ve been cut off because you did not pay a bill. What makes it worse is that you received the bill, but simply forgot about it.
  2. Paying a reconnection fee – You will end up spending more money than you expected because you have to clear the bill that you did not pay plus re-connection fees
  3. Gaining a bad reputation – You do not want to be labelled as a “problem client” by your creditors. This could tarnish your reputation, ruin your credit rating and make it difficult for you to get credit

The best thing to do is to pay your bills when you get them. If you have lots of bills, you can set up reminders on your phone, email or the calendar that’s hanging in your home. Internet banking has made online bill payment extremely easy and convenient. and can definitely help you to pay your bills on time.
